In the run-up to the exhibition Land of Photography (2018), I bumped into Alfons, an eighty-one-year-old man. This encounter resulted into the work 11:00 am. During an eight-month period I visited the octogenarian at his house at 11 am. In search of a story, I started photographing Alfons’ everyday routine – hoping that eventually something would break the repetitive patterns. This personal longing led to a new modus operandi: I didn’t merely document his life but I started directing or even constructing a story. The work 11:00 am shows this new approach: the non-sensational images of Alfons are alternated with a written monologue about my personal quest. The book was published by APE (Art Paper Editions) in 2019 and selected for the Best Photography book of Photo Espana.
